Hugh Grant launches Marie Curie's Great Daffodil Appeal

Hugh Grant has launched Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal today (March 1) calling on people all over the UK to make a donation and wear a daffodil pin – the charity’s emblem – throughout March. Hugh has supported the charity as a fundraiser and ambassador since his mother died at home in 2001, cared for by Marie Curie’s Nurses. The actor has made a short film to promote the appeal. The film features Marie Curie’s Nurse Lorna McGarry and charity fundraiser Maria Gleeson.

The support we received meant that more than 31,000 people last year were given the choice of where and how to spend their final days. They, and we, cannot thank you enough. But please don’t stop there.

Marie Curie’s needs to raise £10,000 every hour of every day to carry on our work

Marie Curie has 2,000 nurses in the UK and last year they worked for 1,200,000 hours caring for terminally ill patients, including half of all cancer patients who die at home.

 

We also have nine hospices and are the biggest provider of hospice beds outside the NHS. In total, Marie Curie’s spends over £80 million a year on its charitable activities of providing care as well as on research and development. The figure is overwhelming, but so is the comfort that the money can
