Dirty Little Secret – Universal Healthcare? Social Security?
All of the other Nations with universal health care systems are not on the verge of Bankruptcy. We are… In fact we owe them money because our own Federal reserve can’t even print enough money for this government to spend. We have problems to fix before we create more for future generations

I’m an American …
I’m an American born and raised in a place where I could always hear CBC radio, since the late 1940′s. Canada is a great country and has a great health care system that saved my life several years ago. Not being Canadian I had to pay, and my American insurance paid about 2% of the cost. I was able to pay the rest, just barely.
I like how you’re …
I like how you’re painting me as a socialist. Not appropriate but I like how you think. Very Republican of you.
The idea of universal health care for me at least takes away all the greedy private companys that profit on your pain. They take MASSIVE amounts of cash from every pay and then demand MASSIVE amounts when you actually use what you paid for. Fine, don’t use government health. But for god sake, make all the billing central to 1 company or entity of some sort.
@strakallah The …
@strakallah The Canadian system stresses more on prevention. Regular check ups to to nip it in the bud so to speak on preventable issues. I am not saying that it is a good system. It is a system that if you need to go to the ER, you wont pay 20 dollars for 2 tylenol.
iotu: We do not …
iotu: We do not need universal health care. We already have that in a basic form and it is not working.
Example: Anyone can go to the ER and get care, but some people contribute to the system and others take and it has not been good…right?
If people were MORE self reliant and LESS dependent on Government, we would all be better off.
atch: Your …
atch: Your assumption of collective work is that equal effort will be contributed by all, and that never works out as planned. Someone always does all the work, and someone else always expects everyone else to do their work for them.
Prior to LBJ’s great society, people were more self reliant and much better off. After this entitlement mentality was created, we have generations dependent on Government welfare. How is that better?
iotu: What comment …
iotu: What comment are you discussing?
“The …
“The commodification of human health is fundamentally a good thing in that allows stakeholders to extract value from policy holders in exchange for truncated service.
Economic growth proceeds human need.”
We need universal healthcare!
@WeedaPeople. Which …
@WeedaPeople. Which parts do you have a problem with? Or was this just an ignorant comment?
“At the heart of …
“At the heart of your argument is that Humanity is inherently evil”
No, at the heart of my thesis is that we are at our best when we work collectively in our mutual self-interest rather than going it alone or being exclusionary. That’s how we’ve achieved civilization, and I feel that working together to ensure the health and welfare of everyone in our society is of benefit to us all in the long term.
raka: I did not …
raka: I did not tell you that. YOU ASSUMED THAT.
I do not want any part of the Canadian system whatsoever. There is nothing about their system we need.
We DO need to fix our Government before we change any systems. Yes, on that I agree. I have been saying that from the beginning. Only now are you beginning to sing the same song.
You told me your …
You told me your conclusions came from “Sick in America”.
In either case, it doesn’t seem like your arguement is against National Health. It seems like your issues are with government.
If your opinion is that the Canadian system is shit, don’t clone the Canadian system. If you know about problems there then don’t make your system to include those problems. At the end of the day you need to fix your government before you can create a good system. I think we agree on something finally.
(cont) We are the …
(cont) We are the only country on earth that could come up with gems like the FEMA response to Katrina, Don’t ask don’t tell, the John Murtha airport and the Watergate scandal. We have a 14th amendment that guarantees everyone equal protections of law, give out licenses to get married, but do not allow licenses for plural or gay marriage. We will not tolerate age discrimination from anyone, except our own Government, who practices it daily. These are not the people we should trust with health.
raka: Only you …
raka: Only you could come to that screwey conclusion.
I told you clearly that my “opinions” come from my personal 1st hand experience with the U.S. Federal Government and the Government run health care I already have access to, but choose not to use. I never told you that I based my opinions on the media. It however, illustrates and confirms what I already knew about U.S. Government run care. Think of the worst problems of the Canadian system in the hands of the worst fiscal managers ever.
Hang on…
So me …
Hang on…
So me entering into an open debate is me not having thick skin. You entering into an open debate on the internet is somehow different.
You have already told me that your “own” opinions are based on biased media.
Right – yet your …
Right – yet your error is in thinking that the same greed will somehow be protected against in a hugely intrusive and expensive public system.
In fact, this very same corruption and greed will be ENTRENCHED, not removed. But it’s no longer a problem if it’s legally institutionalized, right?
Sheer genius. At the heart of your argument is that Humanity is inherently evil – if you truly believe that, then what exactly are you fighting for?
Another self-hating human. What a waste.
adha: I have my …
adha: I have my numbers right: The U.S. Congress can not be trusted with $1.
What other information is needed?
Americans must …
Americans must just love being ripped off, they pay twice as much as the French (per capita) for a healthcare system that produces inferior results…
Just PAY for my …
Just PAY for my half million in HC issues NOW!
Redistribution & loose money RULE!
Thanks chumps…. those too dumb to hang onto their own money……
I’m countin on it….
& don’t complain or I’ll rat you out…
It would be PLAIN …
It would be PLAIN and simple enough for me if you got your numbers right. You are comparing apples to oranges, which makes for poor math.
And Stossel’s piece is cherry picked garbage, where he tells half truths or leaves out very important information. He’s biased in his piece, which isn’t honest journalism. I’m surprised he’s not working for Fox.
raka: I do not live …
raka: I do not live there, I will never live there, and do not care at all what you do there.
You can not guarantee me that our Government will make anything cost less, because that is not what they do. I know this for a fact, because I know things about our Government you could not possibly know. Again, Fed Ex makes a $22 Billion profit while the U.S. Post Office loses $3 Billion. They just do not do ANYTHING better. EVER.
raka: If you have …
raka: If you have no problem with it, why do you continue to stick your nose where it is not wanted?
I am not going to lie about anything, and I have no control over the media. They are as bad as politicians or worse and I suggest you stop watching or get a thicker skin.
Here is the absolute truth: I can go to U.S. Government run health care now, and have…but choose not to because it is better for me to pay out of pocket. OK?
adha: I am not …
adha: I am not cherry picking anything. I have backed up the claims with numbers, you just refuse to see them.
We do not want your health system (And apparently your education system either). OK?
Is that “PLAIN” (It is not “plane”) and simple enough for you?
If you live in …
If you live in Australia you don’t need to use the Australian system. You can still opt for private health. It’s fine that (I suppose I’ll start using random caps too) YOU have better things to do but others may need this. If the GOVERNMENT puts in a public option, just opt for private health. I can guarantee that with a public option available, private health will cost 10x less than it does now.
Speaking for myself …
Speaking for myself only.
I would have had no problem watching all the debate and policy being made and kept my nose out of it. The issue is that us foreign watch your media over there tell complete lies about how horrible our healthcare is. We come here saying Fine, have an opinion but know that what they are telling you in order for you to form an opinion are all lies. If you want to have us mind our own business then keep us out of it if you’re going to lie.
Listen, I never …
Listen, I never said how you should live, I’m calling you out on your “claim” that the U.S. life expectancy would jump ours if you take out accidents. You are WRONG, and you haven’t it yet. Plane and simple.
I won’t stfu, when Americans like yourself make incorrect claims about our system and try to use a cherry picking story by John Stossel to back you up.
